wesleyan's music scene
The music scene in Wesleyan is very diverse, but the Wesleyan stereotype somewhat remains: Wesleyan is not a big fan of anything mainstream, and that includes music too. Interesting fact: The one “well-recognized” performer that Wesleyan adores is Queen Bey.
Wesleyan does bring in outside performers at times for parties or concerts: In 2013/14 alone, we had DJ Rashad, Jay Stolar, and Mykki Blanco just to name a few. We also bring in very diverse artists to Spring Fling every year!

MUSIC ENSEMBLES
The Wesleyan Music Department is well known for experimental music and ethnomusicology. It also offers many fun group performance classes, even for those with no musical background!
Almost all of these performance classes have a concert as their final exams at the end of the semester. So if you are not performing in the class, you can still check out the performances.

specific musical instruments
The Wesleyan Music Department also offers private lessons for various musical instruments but you would have to pay for the private lesson fee. Good news is that financial aid is available to waive off some of the fees, but this is only applicable to those who are on financial aid.
Also, the Memorial Chapel has an amazing pipe organ installed, and you can take private organ classes with Professor Ron Ebrecht.
